Awards

APPLES

  • The All Canadian Wine Championships has been dedicated to the wine and cider industry in Canada since 1981.

    16 judges sampled 85 ciders. Broken Ladder Apples took home the highest honour in the Modern Cider Category.

  • 2017 saw an explosion of entries into the Cider category with 56 entries. They came from Nova Scotia to the Similkameen and just about everywhere in between. Broken Ladder Apples was awarded Silver.

  • The World Cider Championships is hosted in collaboration with the World Beer Championships, the nation’s oldest international beer and cider competition. The medal-based competition is open to all commercially produced beers and ciders from around the world and relies on a blind tasting methodology developed by Tastings.com.

  • 1,642 beverages from 196 breweries were examined across 98 categories. 90 brew masters, beer journalists and certified judges, adjudicated the awards. Three categories looked at cider and of six awards only three cideries were honoured. BC Tree Fruits Cider was one of five participating cideries from Canada and the only to be recognized in a cider category.

APPLES & HOPS

  • The 2019 WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada had 1,815 entries, 55 of which were from cideries, from 259 wineries from eight different provinces. To select the winners, 21 judges assembled in Prince Edward County wine region of Ontario this past June to determine the winners. There are a total of 22 categories and four different medal levels, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze.

  • The Canadian International Beer Awards (formerly known as the Calgary International Beerfest Awards) is presented by Alberta Beer Festivals and awards Gold, Silver and Bronze in 27 unique categories. Each judging group is lead by a certified head judge, along with other experienced industry people and select media. The judging is conducted over the two days of the Calgary International Beerfest.

  • The competition invites all Canadian-majority-owned cider producers to compete in categories including New World Cider, Cider with Other Fruit, Cider with Herbs and Spices, and Specialty Cider.

  • In September of 2017, twenty cider industry professionals including tenured judges, certified experts and restaurant buyers blind tasted over three hundred North American-made ciders over the course of two days. Three Canadian provinces and eighteen US States were represented.

  • The Canadian Brewing Awards is Canada’s national competition for judging the quality of Canadian manufactured beer and ciders. Each year, the Canadian Brewing Awards invites Canadian majority-owned breweries and cideries of all sizes to compete in a Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) sanctioned blind tasting determining the best beers and ciders in over 60 style categories. A Canadian Brewing Award medal is a widely recognized symbol of Canadian brewing excellence.
